Character name: Kantera
Character canon: END ROLL

Canon Summary:
The real world is a modern Earth with one key difference: there exists an experimental drug called Happy Dream. This drug is designed to help rehabilitate people by putting them in a dream world where reminders of their crimes can cause them to feel guilt. It's currently too dangerous to test on anyone other than criminals on death row.

Russell Seager, a thirteen-year old serial killer with trouble understanding emotion, is given the Happy Dream medicine. He experiences a world populated by figures based on his victims in life, who he becomes friends with and thus begins to feel guilty about murdering. The Kantera being apped is the dream Kantera, with an entire fictional life's worth of memories but the occasional flash of the real Kantera's past, as told to Russell by the now-dead Kantera.

The dream world is full of fantastical species. Kantera is a Draken, a descendant of humans and dragons with horns and nonfunctional wings. Violent monsters exist outside of towns, usually based on Russell's crimes and traumas. As Russell starts to feel more and more guilty, the dream world starts to break down, with towns full of people disappearing or becoming violently twisted in order to make Russell even more guilty.

Character in Canon:
Kantera's personality section describes him as a 'carefree young man', and that's the way he initially comes across. He's absentminded, dropping an important compass on his daily walk. He's lazy, enjoying frequent naps and often falling asleep during someone else's attempts at talking to him for any length of time. When the Dragon Scroll is mentioned to be rampaging, he immediately fixes in on the fact that it's a rare item he'd like to see and asks if he can go see it, despite all the danger involved. He's the type to gently tease his fellow townspeople about their relationships, hoping that Mireille and Saxon will get together (probably justified) and teasing Russell and Cody for being on a 'date' together the day after Russell was out with Gardenia (neither of these events were remotely datelike).

He's not completely carefree, though - as a doctor, it's in his nature to worry about his friends' health. While he does sell them medicine, he's always reminding them that having it is no excuse to push themselves. He worries especially about Russell for running off and doing things alone (sort of), and is always talking about how much he'd worry if anything happened.

Real Kantera's relationship with Russell may or may not have been entirely a self-serving one: he saw someone who could kill him and granted him shelter at least partially because of that. Dream Kantera's affection for him is real - plenty of people comment on it at some point - but he still has that opportunistic streak in him. When the manjuu seller in Funerale needs assistance, he offers to help if the seller will give them a discount. When the Cattie foreman in Cloakpoint needs medicine, he mixes some up, and asks him to let him pet his neck in return. (Kantera really likes cats. If he hadn't been a cat, the charge would definitely have been higher.)

The most important part of Kantera's personality isn't immediately obvious, however. The real Kantera carried a great deal of guilt and despair within him. He adored his grandfather to the point of mimicking his style of speech, and when that grandfather grew old, he couldn't bear to see him degenerate and poisoned him. The guilt from doing so drove him to flee the country, and later get a young teenager to kill him over it. So, that's some serious guilt levels.

Dream Kantera doesn't clearly remember this incident, but parts of his real self's memories are coming back in bits and pieces. The same heavy sense of guilt exists for him, just a lot more confusing when he doesn't have full context and his memories don't line up. He seems to gradually be regaining some memory of this over canon, though before he's told the truth he's still somewhat in denial.

Naturally for a murderer, Kantera's sense of morality is... loose. He will shelter a known serial killer in his home, either out of honest affection for him or because he could get him to do something for him or both. He's willing to ignore the fact that someone just told him that they're a serial killer in a dream world because he personally would rather continue living with them as if nothing was wrong.

He has a bit of a dark sense of humor, making a 'well at least my memories not lining up isn't the onset of dementia, ohoho' joke almost immediately after being told that he's in a dream and Russell murdered him. Humor is a good coping mechanism when stressed and upset. That said, 'getting rid of the thing that is making him upset' is also an option, even when the thing in question is something like aging and senility and the getting rid of it is murder.

Character in Imeeji:
Amnesia is an interesting thing for a mental construct whose memories already don't hold up under scrutiny. His sense of guilt will be gone, allowing him to be more open with people until he remembers the kind of person that he is/was. He still talks like an old man and refers to himself as such even if he doesn't remember his actual age - that's just how he talks.

Being an idol will be more than a little tiring. Kantera is easily forgetful and will take a while to remember the rules of his unit, the sort of things that he's supposed to be doing, and what new powers he has. On the other hand, he's a sucker for gossip and will enjoy teasing other people about their fanbase. He isn't a very genuine person to begin with, so putting on a face for the camera will come somewhat naturally.

Kantera historically handles trauma very poorly, and will default to 'is there a problem? murder is a solution' especially after learning that death isn't permanent here. I'm hoping that he can learn better coping mechanisms, but we'll see. He'll certainly be trying to help people, even if his method of helping involves mercy killing. A lot.

I would like Kantera to realize that he's not a 'real person' and have to confront what that means for him, as well as deal with his guilt and learn to accept responsibility for his actions and not just immediately jump to getting rid of upsetting things as a solution. It would also be good for him to learn to be more genuine with other people.

Kantera can accept people with any kind of shady history, but he'd do better surrounded by people who err on the side of trying to be good even when that doesn't come naturally to them. If he's among people who don't feel guilt for the unpleasant things they do, he won't grow as a person.

Unit Preferences:
Kantera feels at home with teenagers he can tease about teenager things, as Team Morally Shady Dad, and more responsible people he can drive up the wall with his absentminded nature. He also does well with reckless people he can fuss about and foist medicine onto.

Priority: alche!ME is closest unit listed traitwise but in terms of what units would actually work I'm open to anything
2nd Priority: anything else
Do Not Place: nothing comes to mind
